February 11, 2010 Buckets of Hope
After the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, many people have reached out to donate money or time to help in the massive relief effort for the thousands of people who have been devastated by such a great loss.
In the coming months and years much work will be needed to help bring aide to all the families that have lost so much. It is important to offer help for the immediate needs, but also to look ahead to the coming months as their lives and homes are slowly put back together.
I came across an article about another way to offer help to the people of Haiti. It is called Buckets of Hope. For about the cost of $30, you can fill a large paint canister with food that will feed a family for about a week. Although this doesn’t seem like much help, if we all work together and get the word out, then we will be able to make a real impact.
Each bucket is filled with food items that you can pick up at any grocery store. Once you have your bucket ready, you can easily find a drop off location from the following website: Buckets of Hope – NAMB.net. You can also download complete instructions from this site, including how to pack all the food into the bucket.
This is a great project for families to do together. You could also include your neighbors or co-workers in the effort. I will post pictures later of our family working together to provide a bucket of hope.
