February 14, 2010 Lego Land
There is a balance in our house of playing and TV time (which includes the use of video games.) A few days ago, J.’s Lego box was spilled out on the floor. The mess of Legos must have inspired some super creative energy. Of the next few days he work at his creation. He built it in several well planned out phases. The bottom had the larger stronger Legos that would be a good base. Then he added on. Creating rooms and levels. His big sister even helped, but for the most part this was his creation. After the ship was finished, I helped him set it on a platform. I thought this would be enough. Of course it wasn’t. The ship lasted for about four days. Last night Alan accidentally kicked it over, and all was lost. I tried my best to console, but to no avail. It was ruined. This is a sad lesson in life. It is also a good reminder that our kids need sad lessons. When the pet dies, or they have a bad time it is wrong for us to rush in and make it better. Our kids need to learn to grieve their losses. They also need to learn that life is hard. We don’t always get what we want, and things don’t always work out the way we want them to. In time, J. will have another inspiration. Perhaps it will be bigger and better, but even if it isn’t he has had the chance to build and love. Everyone knows it is better to have built and loss than to have never built at all.
I thought I would mention that our oldest daughter, A. took these pictures. I’ll post about that another time….
